On 9th January, 2023 Uganda Rural Development and Training program hosted a group of 10 staff members from Kamuli childcare nursery and primary school, Tantamuki town council in Rakai district for a five days’ workshop. Three out of ten were community members from local council 1 and 2.

The team was warmly received by the URDT family led by the Director of Education and Training at URDT, Mr. Robert Katabazi, who also coordinated the workshop

According to Katabazi, the team was mostly oriented on the visionary approach and the 2-generations approach that URDT uses to develop schools, transform homes and communities.

These participated in the daily foundation courses as an inclination for URDT to edify the nation on different aspects of life. They also visited some of the transformed homes in the communities supported by URDT.

Anthony LwangaAteenyi, the Academic registrar African Rural University (ARU) facilitated the first session of the five-days’ workshop focusing on the visionary approach and real-life aspects.

John Tusiime, a lecturer at ARU also facilitated on life orientations, the creative process, visionary leadership and community mobilization for action.

Tusiime used a video clip “I have a dream” by Martin Luther King to throw more light on who a visionary leader is.

Later, HasakyaKulusum, the Project ManagerYoung Africa Works (U) also came in for a session on action planning, Structural Tension Chart (STC) and a shared vision.

The Kamuli team also visited URDT Demonstration farm and learnt the different modes of modern farming. They also toured the URDT cultural center, KKCR studios, a Homestead vision 2023 and ARU among others.

Fred KalanziKizito the team leader and head teacher for Kamuli child Care nursery and primary school said that the workshop has enhanced their knowledge and skills development. He said they can now articulate and assess key elements of the STC, develop 2 personal STCs, develop 3 Institutional STCs and   Develop 1 Telescope.

Kalanzi said they wanted to transform their communities including the school since they have been acting ordinarily. He has hence promised to properly use the acquired knowledge accordingly.

“We have come up with individual visions and a vision for a school, we have really learnt beyond our expectations” Kalanzi said.

Josephine Kalanzithe chairperson of RwabakyaraTwezimbe women’s group said“they have been eager to meet Dr. MwalimuMusheshe and URDT, and have now seen and gained from him and other facilitators. She said they have learnt a lot hence promising to put in practice whatever they have learnt.

These were awarded certificate of participation in the community mobilization and visionary leadership training at the end.
